Reddit still down

I've sent the mods 2 messages over the last couple weeks but they haven't responded.
I've tried that as well but no response yet either. The thing is all the big subreddits are back open and it just doesn't make any sense to keep it closed. I'm hoping someone personally knows the mods and can talk to them because messages through reddit just aren't doing anything.

Why was it closed in the first place? R/fiestaST is what eventually led me to this forum.

I saw this happened a month or so ago. Apparently r/FiestaST was shut down in protest of API changes (basically Reddit monetizing data and charging high rates to app developers, many of whom are also mods for many subreddits). Unclear if it’s still shut down in protest or if Reddit locked it under some stupid ToS clause. Either really sucks because it means all previous content is now inaccessible. It’s unclear if or when it will be reopened

Someone else has started up r/FordFiestaST as a possible replacement, but doesn’t fix the loss of old content.

Anybody had any luck reaching out to them? I fully supported the protest. Unfortunately it didn't work.

Reddit knew they were the only option for that kind of platform and they pushed their BS but now we've lost YEARS of information. You can't even Google something at this point without that subreddit popping up and leading to a shut down sub.

I really really don't want to get Reddit involved because I genuinely don't like what they did, but I feel like it's kind of necessity at this point.

If you can't get ahold of them you can still view the old posts via the google cached sites (most posts).

I reached out to the mods. Heard nothing from them. Following that I begrudgingly reached out to Reddit admins, and explained that the page is still down with no word from the mods.

Reddit admins also could not get in touch with them, so after they offered me a chance to take over the page (which I declined, I don't have the time to solo mod a 19k page), they found someone else who has opened the page back up!

TL;DR: The main Reddit sub, r/FiestaST is back up and running.

I still don’t understand that protest.
The official Reddit app is garbage. The secondary apps are phenomenal. Reddit made changes to their backend that made it so the third party apps couldn't possibly afford to continue running, forcing people to use Reddits awful official app.

Mods were shutting pages down in protest, to show Reddit the consequences of their actions, but it of course didn't work. Reddit started removing mods from popular pages and replacing them with Reddit positive members to run them, and started banning people who actively spoke out against them.

I guess that’s why I don’t get it. I have the official Reddit app and never considered looking for an alternative, but also I don’t have an account so I don’t post.

The moderating tools are trash, as is the fact that there isn't an ad free option (unless that has changed). The third party apps also make customizing things like page orientation much simpler.

The big issue most people had really was the back end changes. Yes, Reddit is a business, but they basically forced people to use their app so they get more revenue without making the changes the masses were asking for.

The third party app I use is still somehow functioning fine, and I'll be fine if I have to go back to official, it just isn't great relatively speaking.

I just ditched reddit once I couldn't use apollo anymore. Not worth the tracking and ad shoveling - all they're doing is trying to pump revenue for the impending IPO. I read that they won't even let people access nsfw stuff on phone without using their app lol. I didn't even know reddit was people's primary porn source but I guess it makes sense. If I can find obscure old alfa romeo content, why not fringe porn-y things.

Yea I think a huge group moved to Twitter and Reddit when Tumblr stopped NSFW stuff forever ago lol honestly that is probably why so many people were outraged xD

Can’t see that stuff without an account. If they ever require an account to view anything at all I’ll just stop using it. I stopped using YouTube now that they’re forcing me to turn on watch history.

Thanks for going though the trouble of contacting the admins and getting it back up. Now we wont lose years of posts and good information on these cars.
