You'll see it, right above the seat belt socket. That's my key fob.
In that location, the car won't detect it while off.
Result is, key gets locked in car.
If the fob is on the left side of the driver seat, the car sees it.
I have two pairs of pants that do this to me.
As a workaround, I've started latching the fob to my house keys. (when wearing those pants)

Does your vehicle allow you to lock your fob in, when in that location?

i've never had that problem (and the key fob used to fall out my pants pocket into that area of the Fiesta pretty regularly) but i've never had a leather wrap around it. maybe change out the fob battery too if it's been awhile? when i had a weak battery in my fob the car would have trouble recognizing i had it on me.

Looks like the battery has been in there a bit over a year...

Won't hurt to check though... I'll do that tonight.
I wouldn't think the leather and latch would be enough to significantly weaken or interfere?
There is a little bit of additional hardware in the console; shouldn't be near enough to interfere.

There's a computer hard drive beneath the center console lid.

One of the system's antannae is attached to the headliner BTW.

yeah i'm just wildly guessing and pointing out differences. i have no idea why this would happen other than a weak battery or you built a faraday cage by your e-brake.
