How to check your Focus RS to see if you have V4 or V5 engine that are prone to cracked block

Good way to check. By the starter, if you have a hex plug you have a version 5, if you have a riveted plug you have a version 4 engine. Version 4 engines are believed to susceptible to cracked engine block.







Symptoms:
  • Car doesn't idle properly
  • High engine temperatures
  • Car engine misfire
  • Car engine smells of burning sugar

Assuming the affected build dates are accurate, mine was built 10/23/16, so it shouldn't be affected.

Mine was a May production, hopefully I made the cut-off date, but its still up in the air until Ford releases some more concrete information.
