Mountune offers a whole range of Ford-approved tuner packages in the UK that can make your Fiesta or Focus faster without voiding the factory warranty. Their latest power upgrade is for the Focus RS, bringing the total output of everybody's favorite hatchback to 370 horsepower and 376 foot pounds (for a maximum of 12 seconds on overboost).

For this whopping 7 percent of extra power, Mountune charges ?899, for which your approved dealer in the UK will upgrade the car with a high-performance air filter, bespoke alloy crossover duct with silicone hoses, an upgraded air re-circulation valve and revised software tuning for the engine ECU in just 1.5 hours.

Based on what I've gathered from Focus RS chief engineer Tyrone Johnson during the car's launch, the tunability of Ford's hot hatch is likely to be limited by it's drivetrain built around GKN's Twinster, which is an electro-hydraulic system with torque vectoring, consisting of a rear drive unit capable of overspeeding the rear wheels at a 1.8 ratio, with wet clutches on both sides and a separate cooler, connected to what acts as an open front diff with brake-based torque vectoring by a three-piece driveshaft.

345hp is what was deemed safe for series production, and 370 is probably within the design threshold. Anything above that feels like a gamble, especially knowning that Ford has broken quite a few prototypes before settling for these figures.

The good news is that the Ford Focus RS doesn't really need more power than its stock output. It's thirsty enough as it is.

I was looking online at Mountune prices and it's really a lot of money for such little gains.

TopGear - Ford Focus RS gets the Mountune treatment

"Ford?s official tuner turns RS up to 370bhp and drops 0-62mph time to 4.5 seconds"

The 345bhp Ford Focus RS isn?t exactly under-endowed, but that hasn?t stopped those talented guys at Mountune from making it even more banzai. Developed together with Ford?s Performance division, a new power upgrade package for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine takes peak power to 370bhp and peak torque on overboost (available for 12 seconds) to 376lb ft ? a 30lb ft increase over the standard car. Meaty.

With the RS? trick four-wheel drive system not wasting an ounce of that, 0-62mph is dispatched in just 4.5 seconds. That?s a 0.2 second improvement and now just 0.2 seconds shy of the Audi RS3, and that gets a fancy twin-clutch auto don?t forget, whereas the RS sticks with a trusty six-speed manual.

The upgrade includes an ECU flash, an uprated turbo recirculation valve and Mountune?s RS induction kit that includes an alloy crossover duct and high-performance silicone hoses to improve engine breathing by 11 per cent versus the factory fit pipes. Oh, and you get a Mountune badge on the boot to warn other road users of sudden and violent acceleration.

At least it's all simple bolt-ons and a tune.

The Ford Focus RS is already a seriously hot hatch, but some people will always want to spice things up even more. Extra spice also usually means bidding adieu to the car's factory warranty. Fortunately for those people, Mountune and Ford Performance announced a power upgrade kit that lets you turn up the heat on your hatch without ditching the warranty.

The new kit was developed by the famous European Ford tuner Mountune and Ford Performance. It includes a high-flow intake, upgraded blow-off valve, retuned engine management, and a badge to let everyone know that your RS is something a little more special. All of these components net the car an extra 25 peak horsepower and about 30 lb-ft of peak torque. Mountune also claims a new 0-62 mph time of 4.5 seconds compared with a claimed 4.7 second time for a stock model. Not bad for a kit that the dealer can install in under two hours and is fully covered by warranty.

Right now Mountune is only offering the kit overseas, but it will eventually come here. However, there may be a bit of a wait as it's still be developed for our market.

"Final details and launch date have yet to be determined pending various legislative and regional test requirements," Ken Anderson, president of Mountune USA, told us in an email. The good news is that it is coming. And if you simply can't wait, Mountune already offers many of the key components of the RS kit at their online store.
