THANK YOU for this article! [thumb]

So, IF I decide to leave my now removed Damond OCC off of the car, while still retaining my either UPR, or CFM (anyone know which of these two functions best, as I now have BOTH??) oil fill tube breather (which DO have that ball style check valve in them), do you still suggest a UPR check valve in that FACTORY passenger side cam cover to intake manifold tube???

Most of the OCC offerings for this car give an option for (or supply as standard) a check valve in that line of their systems. [wink]

Yes, absolutely! I've never installed one on the OEM line before, but I do suggest having one in place 100%. You are removing the stress off the check valve in the valve cover.
As for the oil cap breather, check out my recent post on FB/IG. You'll want to install a baffle under the valve cover to prevent the mess of oil they create.

I know, as that is the one sitting in my cam cover currently, which somehow (maybe because I was using a foam microphone cover instead of their supplied filter? [dunno]). did not ever make a mess with oil spray/spatter in the 5 years it's been on the car, as Jason claims it would due to them 'lying' about it being baffled.

But then again, I am not even running a tune, let alone a huge azz snail pushing 30 lbs. of boost on an 'edgy' tune, like everyone else is, and I also go WOT/factory 'overboost' much less frequently than most on here always do.

The one I bought just last week is the UPR version of the same thing, but have not tried it out yet.

Most likely not baffled (or at least not enough for Jason's approval) either, even though they too claim theirs is "baffled". [:(]

EDIT; Re-reading Jason's post, he is claiming that the cam cover must be removed, and a baffle system must be somehow installed UNDER it (plastic welded maybe??), before the crankcase pressure even gets to these breathers, in order to be effective, regardless of breather construction/engineering, or configuration. [wink]

Nice, good to know it didn’t make a mess.

I have the cfm unit and within the first few miles of installing it, I was already getting oil seeping down onto the valve cover. Every engine is different, has different amount of blowby, and is driven differently, so I could see results being different for some. But I have spoken with numerous friends/customers all running this unit, and they all have the same issue as well.

Here is the underside of it, and you can see that there is no baffle or anything. The check valve ball is right there at the bottom of the cap.

It's also important to note, that the orientation of the oil fil hole is directly above one of the cam lobes, which is slinging oil up under the cap. Then any excess pressure trying to be released, pushes the oil out everywhere.
To alleviate this, I installed a baffle plate under the valve cover which prevents the oil slinging up under the cap. :)

Jason, do you think that the small perforated screen type plate installed into the top portion of the UPR breathers for our rides qualifies as a 'baffle' at all??
